Description: Swordsmith: Kuriyama Kaneaki,Origin: Mino Province, Japan, Age\Period: ca.1940 Showa, Type: Katana, buke-zukuri mountings, Dimensions: 26-5/8" long (tip of kissake to munemaki); A fine hand-forged katana by swordsmith, Kuriyama Kaneaki, Mino Province, ca.1940. The katana is fully mounted in buke-zukuri mountings. The sori is torii zori. The hamon is gunome. The boshi is is kaeri-tsuyoshi. The hada is mokume hada, but is somewhat obscurred. A light clean-up polish will bring it out very nicely. The nakago end is ha-agari kuri-jiri. The blade is in very fine condition with no weakness in the folded steel. There are some areas (result of sliding in and out of the saya) of light hairline scratches that can easily be polished out with a light clean-up polish. The nakago is finely engraved by the swordsmith NOSHU JU KURIYAMA KANEAKI SAKU.
