Description: A rare original mated tsuba / fuchi / kashira set with matched menuki Japanese sword fittings.

All the pieces were purchased together. This complete set is comprised of a stunning inlaid tsuba with its mated fuchi, kashira, and a pair of matched menuki. The tsuba's smooth hammered, black iron surface is richly carved and inlaid in high relief on both surfaces. Details include high-relief inlay, carved of gold, silver, copper of Chrysanthemums blossoms and butterflies. The hand forged iron surfaces also have carved wavy earth details. This theme and craftsmanship is continued on the mated fuchi and kashira. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira were clearly made as a mated set by the same smith. They date to the late 18th c. early to 19th century Edo Period. The pair of menuki, though similar in theme, are from the 16th century Edo Period.
