Description: A rare and fine early Hirado (Hirado-yaki) porcelain netsuke by Masazaku, ca.1800. Dimensions: 60mm tall. This rare netsuke depicts a Taoist sennin (hermit). The paste of this netsuke is of the classic soft beige paste classic of Hirado netsuke of this period with a translucent beige/tan glaze. It is also finely balanced and stands easily (as all finer netsuke should be able to do) on any flat surface. This rare netsuke is signed with an impressed signature reading MASAKAZU between large himotoshi. It should be noted that only about 20% of Hirado netsuke come in any other color aside the soft whitish paste. And later Hirado paste exhibit a bright white color. Condition consensus is Very Fine condition with old loss of front of left foot. There is what appears to be an old shallow 'firing crack' along the rightside of the netsuke that most likely happened during the original firing. This is NOT injury, but an occurence during kiln firing. Otherwise without any injury or repair.
