Description: Origin: Japan,

Dimensions: 2-3/4" wide, 3" tall, 1/8" thick,

Composition/Style: Hammered Iron/"Tembo" Mokko;

A very early Japanese Iron Tsuba. This tsuba most likely dates to the the 15th/16th century Muromachi Period. The style is Tembo which has distinctive die punches on the surfaces of the rough stone-like hammered tsuba. The form is mokko form. I am attributing a date between the 15th to 16th century Muromachi. The tsuba also has a cutout for the kozuka kogai. The color is a rich, deep black patina.
