Description: A nice pair of porcelain vases with underglaze cobalt-blue designs, signed and of the period of Xianfeng, ca.1851-61. Dimensions: 9" tall. Each vase is has a squared tall neck that flares to a broad shoulder and chest, with a narrow waist and flared foot. The glaze is divided into 4 areas. The band around the upper shoulder and above the foot rim is glazed with a flat brown glaze. There are also etched detailing under the glaze. The rest has a off-white ground, (including the inside of each vase), and decorated with rich cobalt-blue painted decorations. The design is of a courtesan and her young attendant. Interestingly both characters are painted twice: once next to a pine tree and again (moving in opposite direction) next to a palm tree. The entire body exhibits a fine crackle. The entire vase is glazed with exception of the bottom of the foot rim. Within the foot rim, each vase is signed (etched) with a loose and spirited Xianfeng signature within a recessed square and is glazed with brown glaze. Note: one vase has an expertly done repair to a crack in the neck with no loss. It was properly done where the repair was NOT hidden and is not detracting at all. The other vase is perfect with no injury. I am selling both vases a pair.

Condition: Very Fine
