Description A rare and large Warring States Period/Eastern Han Jar. This jars style appeared first during the Warring States Period (475 - 206 B.C.) and continued through the Western Han (206 B.C. - AD100) dynasty. Made of gray high-fired earthenware with residual ash glaze and impressed woven-mat design. The mat design was common a ornament on southern high-fired earthenware from the Neolithic period onward. Technically the type of ashen glaze earthenware seen in this piece was related to glazed stoneware, both having been used as the medium for wares of similar shapes. Above the shoulder are carved raised bands extending onto the mouth rim itself. The base foot is flat and without foot rim. The side and base of the foot has a reddish-pink soil residue. Authenticity guaranteed!!!
Condition: Extremely Fine Condition, museum quality, without any damage and or repair. |
