Description: A glorious original painting by the famous contemporary Chinese artist Zhang Baosong. This one is titled Contemplating Bodhidharma, ca.1987. Bodhidharma, also known as Dhamo for short, is the legendary founder of Zen Buddhism. The actual paintings dimensions are 16-1/4" tall by 12-1/4" wide. The painting is done in native Chinese water colors on silk. The image shows a contemplating Bodhidharma, sitting on a bed of Wutong tree leaves on a pedestal rock formation at the base of a mountain. The colors are vibrant. The image calm and sublime. A masterpiece work from one of China's most celebrated modern artists. Now about the artist.

Zhang Baosong (pronounced BOUGH-SONG) was born in China in 1950. Baosong is a famous artist in the Asian continent. Baosong is most renown for his unparalleled mastery the Chinese large brush-work. This is one of the most difficult painting to learn or control. It skill requires using a gigantically large natural hair brush and painting in large sweeping motions on nearly transparent rice paper. It is amazingly difficult to control the flow of the ink on the extremely delicate and thin rice paper. He has also, at a very early age, studied and mastered many of the European and western master painters' techniques. He also developed his own uniques styles that are used by many of his contemporaries. He has taught in many schools and universities in China and North America. He has had many one-man shows in China and the North America. He has exhibited and demonstated his artistry at major at shows in many cities in many countries, including but not exclusively: China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, London, England. Baosong has won many national and international awards including 1997 International Man of the Year, from Cambridge, England and 1996 Man of the Year, USA. Baosong is named in both the International(volume #12) and USA (volume #4) Who's Who's books. His paintings are collected privately and are also displayed in galleries and museums worldwide.
