Rare! (Northern) Song Dynasty YaoZhou 'ZhangTuo' (Cup Stand), ca. AD960-1279 |
Origin: China
Period: ca. AD960-1279
Price: P.O.R.
Stock Number: 2090
Description: Rare Song dynasty YaoZhou 'ZhangTuo' (cup stand), ca. AD960-1279. Dimensions: 6cm (2.4") high and 11.5cm (4.5") diameter. This cup stand appears to date to the Early Northern Song dynasty 's YaoZhou yao (kiln), (AD960-1127). Though we are conservatively attributing this as simply Song dynasty, ca. 960-1279. The unglazed body is dark brownish stoneware with a thick olive-green glaze. The thick glaze exhibits many tiny air-bubble pin holes. This is consistent with the early celadon wares of YaoZhou yao. There is also an area where the glaze did not fill (or cover) on the underside of the bowl. These occurred during original kiln firing. Please examine the enlargements. The cup stand is glazed in all the area except for the rim of the foot.
