Description: A rare Yuan dynasty Lonquan octagonal bowl with applied dragons, ca.1271-1368. Dimensions: approx. 7" diameter (170 mm) by appox. 1-1/2" (38 mm) tall. A low and sturdy octagonal bowl with a thick pale green glaze covering most of the bowl. Two applied and unglazed dragons are circling the inner bowl. The foot rim is unglazed and exposing the gray porcelain with orange-brown edges caused by the iron content and oxygen reduction in the kiln. Examples of this Yuan style can be found on pages 175-177, "Chinese Ceramics, The New Standard Guide", by He Li.
