Rare! Yuan Dynasty 'Peacock Green' Glazed Porcelain Incense Pot, ca. AD1279-1368 |
Origin: China
Period: ca. AD1279-1368
Price: P.O.R.
Stock Number: 2050
Description: A rare and seldom seen Yuan dynasty 'peacock green' glazed porcelain incense pot, ca. AD1279-1368. 18cm (7") high, 18cm (7") long and 9.5cm (3.7") wide. This is only among less than a handful I have seen and the first I have handled in over 20 years. This incense pot was modeled in the shape of an archaic bronze ding, similar to those found during the Shang dynasty. The incense pot is stout masculine, and slightly crude. It has two large 'ear' handles and stands on four round and tall legs. The belly has impressed/carved archaic symbols, in two rows circumventing it. A thick and runny green 'peacock green' glaze was loosely applied to the outer, upper body. The balance of the body is unglazed revealing a blackish gray clay. It also has a red wax seal and label from the China Antiquities Customs Authority authenticating the piece as described and approving it for legal exportation. The incense pot is in original 'as excavated' condition without any repair.
