Description: A beautiful Song dynasty qingbai,(also referred to as yingqing), brush washer in the form of an unfurling lotus bud. Dimensions: 3-1/2" diameter by 1-3/4" tall. Qingbai literally translates as "shadow blue" and as exhibited in this brush washer. The overall glaze is a light translucent blue-green pooling to a deeper blue-green in the recesses below the mouth rim. The brush washer form appears to have been modeled and molded. The outer surface further exhibits a sugary fine spider-web fracture. Brush washers are well-known as an important scholar's desk object. Condition consensus: Extremely Fine condition without any injury or repair.
