Description: A gorgeous and rare Tang Dynasty, sancai, earthenware Horse, ca. A.D.618-906. Most likely made in the northern Chinese Henan or Shaanxi regions. This horse stands 16" tall and is 19-1/2" long from nose to tip of tail. Its posture's alert and ready with a natural head tilt to the right. The entire figure, except the base, is glazed in a combination of 2 to 4 polychrome glazes: blue, green, yellow, white and brown. This is known as Sancai. This particular piece exhibits all these colors. The glaze exhibits wear, degradation, mineral intrusion and other evidence that is consistent with attributed age. The sancai glaze also exhibits fine crackling. The horse stands on it's original base, which in many such pieces are broken or missing. This example is in perfect, museum quality condition.b5/2
