Description: Rare! Shang dynasty jade yuhuang, ca.1100BC. Dimensions: 11cm long, 3cm wide, .4cm thick. Yuhuang is named after the famed immortal Jade Emperor and jade yuhuang is a significant type of what is known as 'burial' jade. This would be the 'key' central element of the chest piece. There could be one or more depending on the rank of the person it is adorning. This yuhuang is carved with symbols representing earth and heaven. There is a small hole bored at the top to facilitate fastening to the rest of the chest assembly.The jade appears to have been originally white, the most rare and desirable jade colors. But over time, it changed to a white with russet orange and beige inclusions. Condition consensus: Very Good condition.
