Description: RARE KAGA PROVINCE, YOSHIRO STYLE JAPANESE TSUBA WITH BRASS INLAY, CA.1620 (MOMOYAMA ERA) A stunning tsuba of heavy hammered iron of Kaga province, Yoshiro style in a slightly oval shape.Weight: 113.2g. Dimensions: 72mm tall (2.83"), 70mm wide (2.76"). This fine tsuba, made to fit on a katana, (samurai long sword), is elaborately etched and inlaid with ginko leaves and vines in classic Kaga fashion which decorates across the entire surface and to the very rim of a tsuba. Ths tsuba has a wonderfully deep blackish-brown patina. note: A similar Kaga tsuba is illustrated in JAPANESE SWORD GUARDS (Peabody Museum of Salem) by Hamilton, 1975. (see enlargements) Condition Consensus: Very Good condition with some missing inlay (see enlargements). All original with no repairs.
